A large proportion have been renovated and extended, which typically means a modern open-plan living area at the back and the original narrow entrance hall at the front — and the entrance hall is the constraint. Garages are frequently detached and set back down a long single-width driveway.

Driveways and street parking

Linden driveways are typically single-vehicle width, often with a gate at the pavement that is narrower than the drive itself, and many have a step or lip at the entrance. A full-size pantechnicon can usually park on the street but frequently cannot enter the property, so the carry from vehicle to door is longer than average — that affects crew size rather than feasibility. Around 4th Avenue, where the restaurants and shops are, on-street parking is contested from mid-morning, so we load early where we can.
