Small Load Movers
A few items, a single room or one delicate piece — from R1,500, insured, on our own fleet

Small load movers handle the jobs that fall between a courier and a full household removal — a fridge, a bedroom of furniture, a marketplace purchase or a student move. You should not have to pay for a whole truck to move five items, and with Careful Movers you do not: you pay for the space your goods actually occupy.
We run small loads across Gauteng and on our regular long-distance schedules to every province. The same trained crews, the same insured vehicles and the same written fixed quote as a full move — just sized to what you are actually shifting.

Anything from a single item up to roughly the contents of a bachelor flat — commonly a fridge or washing machine, a bed and wardrobe, a lounge suite, a few boxes with furniture, or one bulky item such as a display cabinet. If it fits in under about a third of a standard truck, it is a small load. Above that we quote it as a standard move, which usually works out better for you anyway.
These get confused constantly and the difference matters. A small load describes the size of the job. A shared load describes how it travels — your goods share a long-distance vehicle with other consignments, so you split the cost of the trip. Small local loads move on their own; small long-distance loads almost always travel shared, which is what makes interprovincial moves affordable. See shared load removals.
An informal bakkie quote is genuinely cheaper on the day. What it leaves out is cover: if your fridge is dropped or your headboard is scratched, there is no Goods in Transit insurance and no company to claim against. There are usually no blankets or straps either, so items travel against each other on an open load bed. On a single valuable item the potential loss is larger than the saving. The warning signs are set out in how to avoid moving scams.
Residence moves cluster hard around the start and end of term, and those weeks book out early. A typical student load is a bed, a desk, a small fridge and a few boxes, which is well inside small-load territory. Residences frequently restrict moving to set hours and have lift or access rules, so tell us the building when you book and we will schedule around it.
A large share of our small loads are collections rather than moves — a couch bought on Facebook Marketplace, a dining suite from a retailer that does not deliver, or an auction lot. We collect from the seller and deliver to you, with the item properly wrapped for transport. We need the collection address, contact number and a photo, and we will confirm the vehicle and price before the trip.
If your dates do not line up, a small load and short-term storage are frequently cheaper together than moving twice. We collect, store the items securely and insured, and deliver when you are ready. Raise it when you request the quote — arranged upfront it costs a fraction of what it costs mid-move. See storage services.
Our reasonable rates, careful and personalised service and track record of satisfied customers have made us the ideal choice
for many South African households and businesses needing help with any size and type of move.
Small loads are priced on the space your goods occupy and the access at both ends, not on distance within a metro:
| Load | Typical example | Indicative price |
|---|---|---|
| Single item | A fridge, couch or marketplace collection | from R1,500 |
| A few items | Bed, wardrobe and a few boxes | from R1,800 |
| Student / residence move | Bed, desk, bar fridge, boxes | from R1,800 |
| Bachelor flat | A full but compact single-room home | from R1,990 |
| Long distance (shared) | A small load to another province | from R4,100 |
Indicative figures for budgeting, not quotes. For an accurate price use our Inventory Hub or send us a photo on WhatsApp.
Small loads are quick to quote because the list is short. Send us three things and we can usually price it the same day:
Flexible dates are worth real money on a small load. If we can fit you around an existing job or a truck already heading that way, the price drops. Mid-month and mid-week are cheaper than month-end, which is when everyone moves.
Across Gauteng — Johannesburg, Sandton, Midrand, Randburg, Roodepoort, Pretoria, Centurion, Alberton, Benoni and the wider East and West Rand — with same-week slots common outside month-end. Nationally, small loads travel on our regular long-distance schedules to Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, Nelspruit, Polokwane, East London and George, so you are not paying for a dedicated vehicle.
The cheapest quote is very often the most expensive outcome. An unusually low price generally means no Goods in Transit cover, a casual crew hired that morning, or a figure that grows once your goods are already loaded. We run our own branded fleet with trained permanent crews, we publish our prices, and we quote in writing so the figure agreed is the figure charged. The warning signs are set out in how to avoid moving scams.

Local small loads start from around R1,500, which covers the vehicle, a two-person crew, blankets and straps, and Goods in Transit cover. The exact figure depends on the items and the access at both ends.
For furniture, yes, and it is a different service. Couriers price on parcel dimensions and weight and generally will not handle loose furniture, appliances or anything requiring two people. We move furniture properly wrapped, with insurance, and carry it in and place it.
Yes. Single-item collections and deliveries are one of the most common jobs we do — typically a fridge, couch, bed or a marketplace purchase.
Yes, on shared loads. Your goods share the vehicle with other consignments so you pay only for your share of the trip, which is why a small interprovincial load starts from around R4,100 rather than the cost of a dedicated truck.
A few days is usually enough for a local small load outside month-end. Month-end, and the start and end of university terms, book out one to two weeks ahead.
Yes. Beds and standard flat-pack furniture are dismantled and reassembled as part of the job, at no extra charge.
