Cresta is built around its shopping centre, and the residential area splits fairly evenly between older freestanding homes and the townhouse and cluster complexes that have filled in around them over the last three decades. Which of the two you are in determines almost everything about the move.

Our Randburg depot is a few minutes from Cresta, which makes this one of the fastest suburbs for us to reach and one of the easiest to book at short notice.

What Cresta homes are like

The older stock is single-storey family homes on medium stands with straightforward access and reasonable driveways. The newer stock is townhouses and clusters, typically double-storey with an internal staircase, a single garage and shared internal roads. In the complexes the practical constraint is the staircase and the turning circle rather than the volume — a two-bedroom townhouse can take longer than a three-bedroom house purely because of the stair turn.

Complex access and Beyers Naudé

Complexes require the move booked with the body corporate or managing agent, and many restrict it to weekday working hours. Internal roads are typically narrow with speed humps, and a full-size pantechnicon frequently cannot reach the unit, so we plan a shuttle for the final leg. The freestanding homes are easier, though Beyers Naudé Drive traffic around the shopping centre is heavy through the day, not just at peak, so we prefer an early start on either.

Getting around Cresta

Cresta sits on Beyers Naudé Drive with the shopping centre as its landmark, bordered by Blackheath, Northcliff and Fairland. Traffic around the centre is constant rather than peaked, so proximity to our depot matters more here than timing — we can be on site quickly and get the vehicle out before the roads fill.
