Melrose, Melrose Arch and Melrose North — precinct access arranged in advance
Melrose splits into two quite different moving jobs. Melrose Arch is a privately managed precinct with its own access control, delivery rules and time windows, and a move there runs on the precinct’s terms rather than yours. Melrose North and Melrose Estate are conventional suburbs of older freestanding homes, and move like any other established Johannesburg suburb.
Knowing which one you are in changes the planning entirely, so tell us the exact address when you book — not just “Melrose”.

Melrose Arch is apartments above a managed retail and office precinct, compact and modern, with service lifts and basement parking. Melrose North and Melrose Estate are mostly older freestanding houses on medium stands, many from the mid-twentieth century, with the narrow doorways and tight internal passages typical of that era — a modern three-seater couch frequently does not clear an original doorframe, so dismantling or a window lift is sometimes the only route.
Melrose Arch requires prior booking with precinct management, allocates loading bays, restricts vehicle height for basement access and enforces set moving hours. A standard pantechnicon typically cannot enter the basements at all, so we plan a bay-level load. In Melrose North and Estate the constraints are physical rather than administrative: narrower streets, mature trees limiting truck height at the kerb, and older properties with steps up to the front door.
Melrose Arch generates apartment moves, often tenants on one or two-year leases, and a fair amount of corporate-funded relocation because of the offices in the precinct. Melrose North and Estate generate family household moves, and increasingly renovation-related moves where a household goes into storage for a few months while work is done and comes back afterwards.
The area sits between Corlett Drive, Athol Oaklands Road and the M1, which makes it quick for our vehicles to reach from any direction. Corlett Drive and the M1 on-ramps are congested through both peaks. Melrose Arch itself is easiest to work in early morning, before the retail and office day starts and the bays fill with deliveries.
Our reasonable rates, careful and personalised service and track record of satisfied customers have made us the ideal choice
for many South African households and businesses needing help with any size and type of move.
Local moves are priced on the size of your home and the access at both ends, not on distance travelled within the metro:
| Move size | Typical example | Indicative price |
|---|---|---|
| Small load | A few items or a single room | from R1,500 |
| 1-bedroom | Apartment or flat | from R1,990 |
| 2-bedroom | Townhouse or small home | from R3,350 |
| 3-bedroom | A typical family home | from R4,590 |
| 4+ bedroom | Larger homes and estates | from R6,990 |
Indicative figures for budgeting, not quotes. For an accurate price use our Inventory Hub.
We work across Johannesburg and the wider northern suburbs, including Rosebank, Illovo, Birdhaven, Waverley, Athol and Killarney. If your move starts or ends outside Melrose we still handle it as one job — see our furniture removals page, or long-distance removals if you are leaving the province.
The cheapest quote is very often the most expensive outcome. An unusually low price generally means no Goods in Transit cover, a casual crew hired that morning, or a figure that grows once your goods are already loaded. We run our own branded fleet with trained permanent crews, we publish our prices, and we quote in writing so the figure agreed is the figure charged. The warning signs are set out in how to avoid moving scams.

Moving a few items rather than a whole home. A single fridge, a bedroom of furniture, a student move or one delicate piece. You pay for the space your goods actually occupy rather than for a whole vehicle, which is what makes it affordable.

Full household removals handled by trained, permanent crews. Packing, wrapping, dismantling and reassembly, loading and offloading, all on our own branded fleet with Goods in Transit cover on every job.

Corporate and SME relocations planned around your downtime, including IT equipment and servers with anti-static handling. We work after hours and over weekends so your business keeps running.

Interprovincial removals to every major centre in South Africa, on shared or dedicated loads. Shared loads cost materially less because you only pay for your share of the vehicle.

Full or partial packing with proper double-walled cartons, bubble wrap, blankets and anti-static materials for electronics. Everything we pack ourselves is covered.

Pianos, safes, artwork, antiques, gym equipment and oversized items that need extra hands, proper equipment and a crew that has moved them before.
We follow a structured process to ensure every move runs smoothly.

The precinct controls access. We book the slot and loading bay with precinct management in advance and work within their permitted hours. A full-size truck usually cannot enter the basements, so we load at bay level.
Not always. Homes in Melrose North and Estate often have original narrow doorframes. We dismantle where the item allows, and where it does not we assess a window lift before the day rather than on it.
A two-bedroom apartment typically starts from around R3,350 and a three-bedroom house from around R4,590. Precinct access and stairs affect crew size, so an inventory gives the accurate figure.
Yes, this is a common Melrose request. We collect, store securely and insured for the duration, and deliver back when the work is finished.
In Melrose North and Estate, yes. At Melrose Arch it depends on the precinct rules for your building, which we confirm when we book the slot.
